Changing your IB or partner code is the step that lets an existing trading account start earning cashback. Every forex account carries a partner tag (or no tag at all) that decides who receives the referral commission your trading generates. If that tag is empty — or points to an introducer who passes nothing back to you — your volume is producing commission that someone else keeps or that nobody claims. This guide explains the standard transfer mechanism that brokers use, what the process looks like on XM, Exness, and FBS specifically, and the honest limits: partner transfers are support-ticket processes, approval is at the broker’s discretion, and where a broker’s exact policy is not in our records we say so rather than guess.

Disclosure: forex-bonus.com may earn a commission when you sign up through our links, and our cashback program shares part of that commission with you. This never influences our ratings or reviews. Trading forex carries significant risk — most retail traders lose money. See our full affiliate disclosure and risk warning.

Availability note: Partner and cashback programs are not available to retail clients in the EU, UK, Australia, or the US. The brokers discussed here serve emerging markets — Nigeria, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Gulf, and more — through their international entities.

What an IB / Partner Code Actually Is

When you register with a broker through an introducing broker (IB), affiliate, or partner link, the broker attaches that partner’s code to your profile. From then on, the broker pays the partner a commission out of the spread or commission you generate — funded from the broker’s client-acquisition budget, not from extra charges on you. In the normal case your trading conditions are identical to a direct registration; if you ever suspect a partner link carries different account terms, compare the account specs before registering.

This is the plumbing behind every rebate service: a cashback program is an IB that returns most of its commission to the trader who generated it. How forex rebates work covers the economics in full, and is forex cashback legit? addresses the “what’s the catch” question directly.

The consequence for existing account holders: because the tag is set at registration, an account opened directly with the broker — or through a partner who shares nothing — earns you no rebates by default. Fixing that means changing the tag, and that is a formal broker process, not something you can edit in your account settings.

The Standard Partner Transfer Process (Any Broker)

Across the industry, partner reassignment follows the same support-ticket pattern. Here is the standard mechanism, which matches how our own cashback program handles migrations:

  1. Get the target partner code. Enroll with the cashback program first — via our cashback page — so you have the exact code or account identifier the broker needs. Rebate rates for each broker are quoted on application via our partner link.
  2. Contact the broker’s support from your registered email. Open a ticket or send an email requesting a change of IB / partner, stating your account number and the new partner code. Brokers act on instructions from the account owner, which is why this usually cannot be done by the IB alone.
  3. Provide explicit consent if asked. Some brokers require a specific consent statement or a form confirming you request the reassignment voluntarily. This protects you — partner tags should never move without the client’s say-so.
  4. Wait for the broker’s review. Approval is discretionary. Common reasons for refusal: the account is already tagged to another active IB and the broker’s policy protects existing attributions, the account type is excluded from IB arrangements, or the broker simply does not support retagging existing accounts. Ask support for their current turnaround rather than trusting any published estimate.
  5. Confirm the retag before relying on it. Once approved, verify the account appears in your cashback dashboard. Rebates accrue from the transfer date forward — no broker pays retroactive rebates on past trades.
  6. If refused: open a new account under the partner link. The brokers covered here allow multiple live accounts per client, your KYC is already done, and the new account carries the tag from day one. Move your trading (and, if you wish, your balance via internal transfer where the broker supports it) to the tagged account.

One boundary worth stating plainly: never create a second profile with altered personal details to dodge a refusal — duplicate identities violate every broker’s terms and will cost you the account. A second account under your own verified profile is the legitimate route.

Broker by Broker: XM, Exness, FBS

All three brokers run established partner programs per our June 2026 broker records — that is what makes cashback possible on each. What differs is how much of the transfer policy is publicly documented. Where our records are silent, the honest answer is “confirm with support,” and we mark it exactly that way.

XM

XM operates a hybrid partner program and is one of the most-requested cashback brokers among our readers. To move an existing XM account to a new partner: contact XM support from your registered email with your account number and the new partner code, and request the change. XM’s specific policy on retagging existing accounts — whether it is permitted, and under what conditions — is not published in our records, so treat approval as discretionary and confirm the current policy with XM support before counting on it. If a transfer is refused, opening an additional XM account through our partner link is the reliable route; XM accounts start from a $5 minimum deposit per our broker record. Note that one-time promotions remain one-time: XM’s no deposit bonus is limited to one per person regardless of how many accounts you hold. Full context on XM’s rebate landscape is in our XM cashback and rebates guide and on the XM review page.

Exness

Exness pairs a no-bonus policy with one of the strongest partner programs in our database — recorded at up to 40% revenue share for IBs (record unverified as to the exact current cap). Partner-change requests on Exness follow the standard route: a support ticket from your registered email stating your account number and the new partner. Exness’s published rules on when existing accounts can be reassigned are not in our records — confirm with Exness support, and expect the answer to depend on whether your account already carries an active partner tag. The fallback is clean: open an additional account through our Exness link (Standard and Cent accounts start at $10 per our broker record) and trade on the tagged account going forward. The full picture — including the Premier / EXD rewards program and how it differs from IB cashback — is in our Exness cashback and rebates guide and the Exness review.

FBS

FBS runs a hybrid partner program that our broker record describes as paying IBs a high percentage of spread. One extra caution applies here: FBS has promoted per-lot rebate figures in past campaigns (our records list up to $15 per lot, tied to a promotion that has since expired, with the record itself unverified) — so treat any FBS rebate number you see quoted around the web with care and rely on rates quoted on application instead. For an existing FBS account, the transfer route is the same support-ticket mechanism: account number, new partner code, request from your registered email. FBS’s current policy on partner reassignment is not documented in our records — confirm with FBS support, and note that FBS accounts opened inside the FBS Trader app may be handled differently from web accounts, which is also worth confirming. The new-account fallback runs through our FBS link ($5 minimum deposit per our record). Broker background is in our FBS review and is FBS legit? analysis.

Transfer or New Account: Which Is Better?

CertaintyDiscretionary — broker can refuseWorks whenever the broker accepts you

Our practical recommendation: attempt the transfer if your account holds significant balance or open positions you prefer not to move; go straight to the new account if you want rebates flowing this week. Either way, enroll with the cashback program first so the code is ready, and confirm your account shows in the rebate dashboard within a day or so of the switch — if it does not, raise it with our support before trading volume you expect to be rebated. The step-by-step rebate guide covers the post-setup checks in detail, and rebate per lot explained shows what the switch is worth at your volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my IB or partner code without opening a new account?

Sometimes. XM, Exness, and FBS all handle partner changes as support-ticket requests from the account owner, but approval is discretionary and each broker’s exact policy is not published in our records — confirm with the broker’s support first. If the transfer is refused, the standard fallback is opening an additional account under the new partner’s link, which every broker covered here permits for verified clients.

Will changing my partner code affect my spreads, funds, or open positions?

Your funds and open positions are not touched by a partner reassignment — it changes commission attribution on the broker’s side, not your account’s contents. Trading conditions normally remain identical too, since the partner commission comes from the broker’s acquisition budget. If anything about your account terms looks different after a retag, query it with the broker’s support immediately.

Do I get cashback on trades I made before the change?

No. Rebates accrue only from the date the partner tag takes effect — whether by transfer approval or new-account registration. No broker in our records pays retroactive commission on historical volume, and any service promising backdated rebates should be treated as a red flag. The sooner the tag is in place, the sooner every closed lot starts paying you back.

How long does an IB transfer take on XM, Exness, or FBS?

There is no published turnaround in our records for any of the three, and processing depends on each broker’s internal review — so ask support for their current estimate when you file the request. What you control is preparation: have the new partner code ready, send the request from your registered email, and include your account number so the ticket is not bounced back for details.

What should I do if the broker refuses the transfer?

Open a fresh account through the cashback partner link — XM, Exness, or FBS — under your existing verified profile, then direct your trading volume there. Refusals usually mean the account is locked to a prior IB or the broker does not retag at all, neither of which you can appeal your way around. The new account carries the tag cleanly, and your rebates start with the first closed trade.

⚠️ Risk Warning: Forex and CFD trading carries significant risk. Most retail traders lose money. Cashback reduces trading costs but does not reduce the risk of the underlying trades. Never trade with funds you cannot afford to lose.
